Experience
Religious School Director - 6 years Hired, trained, evaluated staff. Wrote curricula to address different learning styles in a developmentally appropriate manner. Expanded HomeSchool Learning component. Taught PreK Families; 7th grade; High School electives. Worked with lay leaders to integrate the religious school into the life of the Congregation. Worked with parents, students, staff and other professionals to develop appropriate learning plans for students with a wide variety of special needs. Developed and managed an annual budget. Developed administrative materials as needed. Coordinated educational activities with senior staff.
Jewish Educational Consultant - 1 year Consulted with four supplemental Conservative schools in the areas of curriculum development, teacher training, administration and special needs. Developed and implemented PreSchool Family Experience Program for a Reconstructionist school. Long-term substitute for a special needs student mainstreamed in a Jewish day school.
Family Educator - 3 years Developed family educations programs which used a variety of hands-on, interactive activities. Planned programs, produced materials and purchased supplies. Trained teachers in presenting programs. Evaluated the programs upon completion and adjusted as needed.
Central Agency Teacher Resource Specialist - 3 years Maintained a bank of curricula and resources that were used by teachers in the community; developed curricular materials; presented workshops on teaching strategies to community teachers.
I also taught Preschool for 10 years (three year olds and four year olds) and was a Religious School teacher for 10 years (for third graders). I taught basic Hebrew decoding and Judaics, including a curriculum I wrote on "Daily Jewish Life." As time went on, we discovered I had a knack for working with students who learned differently -- and since then, inclusion has become my passion!
Professional Recognition 5/2007; The Arc of Howard County (Maryland); "Hero in My Eyes Award" Civic award presented to me and the Religious School for "making a difference in the lives of individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities."
9/2005; Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning (Greater Washington DC Area); “Commendation Award” Award presented to the Religious School after an intense process of self-assessment, using the Religious School’s Mission Statement as an indicator of success. Process was funded by a Covenant Foundation Grant
11/1998; Jewish Reconstructionist Federation (Philadelphia, PA); “Master Educator Award” National award received for accomplishments in teaching, curriculum development, family education, teacher mentoring and home/school communications.
