| Rainbow People Curriculum |
| (For all ages; good for family education) |
This curriculum was written in response to September 11th and the feelings of helplessness that many of us -- students, parents, teachers and administrators -- experienced. It's based on the story by Rabbi Marc Gellman of the same name. In that delightful story, which can be found in God's Mailbox, we learn that each of us has the ability to save the world from destruction. The catch is that we can only save the world one day in our lives, and we'll never know exactly which day is our day to do so.
"The Rainbow People Curriculum" was designed as a joint project in which parents and teachers worked together to focus on specific values simultaneously. Each unit contains the following: Food For Thought (text and commentary); Teaching Our Children (directed towards parents and teachers); and Suggestions for Ways to Observe This Mitzvah (directed towards children).
The curriculum focuses on the following mitzvot:
• Tza'ar Ba'alei Chayyim / Compassion to Animals • Kibbud Av v'Em / Honor One's Parents • Bal Tashchit / Do Not Destroy • Hachnasat Orchim / Welcoming Guests • Sh'mirat haLashon / Guarding One's Tongue • Bukkur Cholim / Visiting the Sick • Talmud Torah / Jewish Study
